Can a professional MMA light weight fighter beat up an average 6'2 230lbs guy who doesnt fight?

I am going to answer my own question and say yes but the question I really want to know is lets say you take and average guy that is a heavyweight size (6'2 230lb) and he starts training for a fight learning BJJ.striking, the clinch game etc. how long would it take until he could beat the pro lightweight fighter?

There are guys at my gym who fight at Featherweight who take out guys that size. There are a lot of variables that can speed up integration into MMA. A lot of guys who wrestled in high school or college become fighters pretty quick.

But for a decent dude in shape with no experience, I could see a guy starting to overpower the 5'6 guys after about a year and a half training 3-4 times a week. You have to remember that these real pro fighters do this for a living. That means 5-6 times a week they are in the gym and many times twice a day.

For the first few months of grappling, it will be terrible. You will learn at an insane rate but you will be tapping out constantly and might even get frustrated. But once you get your base and your stuff down, you'll be able to use your technique with your strength to beat those small guys. While this will be great, you'll still be getting annihilated by the guys your size. Once you're the top dog at the gym, its time to go elsewhere.
