Impact A Medical Profession

How important are connections for getting into medical school?

just to be clear, im being serious, not trying to sound like a spoiled rich kid
so i just finished my first year at an ivy league university (i got in here without any help, i worked in highschool, daddy didnt give it to me) with a mediocre GPA (id guess low 3. something). thing is, i come from a pretty well off family, and my dad has a few connections, one specific one is a world renown cardiologist (hes been written about multiple times by forbes etc for changing healthcare). other connections include heads of departments or heads of hospitals, (i think even the head of a med school, a long with other people we know who are willing to use their connections to help me) . i want to make it myself, but if i apply to med school with an average GPA and MCAT from Cornell, can these connections really make a difference?

Networking is the key to life. It's not what you know but who you know. That is just the way the real world works. It would be nice if we could be judged on out own merits but it doesn't work that way. People are more comfortable helping someone they have a connection with.

But keep in mind that "connections" may not always pan out. I know a girl whose parents are both on the admissions committee at a school, and she got wait-listed. I also know a guy who got rejected- very fast- from a law school where he and his father were good friends with a member of the board there.
