Frosted Purple
2011
Should I use food coloring?
I'm planning on baking a cake. I want to make the frosting purple (obviously mixing blue food coloring with red). The food coloring I have at my house contains red 40 which I've heard isn't too good for your health. I'm not sure if using a few drops of the red dye in my frosting would harm me or my family at all? Any advice?
A little food coloring shouldn't hurt anybody, but one thing that you may want to take into consideration is that food coloring will leave the color on lips, teeth, and tongue. If that is not a concern, using the food coloring shouldn't be a big deal. You might consider using a regular colored frosting and buying purple icing? Just a thought!
Good luck
